Welcome to the Kenwood Dennard Metajam Technique! Metajam technique is the concept of group improvisation I have been developing since 1959 in the process of experimenting and performing with countless musical buddies.



Special thanks to associates: Ornette Coleman Chico Freeman Sam Rivers Jaco Pastorius Delmar brown Rael Wesley Grant Miles Davis Wayne Shorter and others for helping shape me as an improviser.

I discovered that I have been using 9 distinct conscious centers in a fluid dialogue: Eye, ear, nose, language, body, intellect, sense of time and space, emotional, and universal sensibilities.

So I have documented this system of group improvisation as a potential guideline for jamming.

What is a Metajam?

What is the Kenwood Dennard 9brain concept?

Simply put it is a concept involving a dialogue between our entire selves and the universe.

The dialogue utilizes what I term as 9 brains: Eye, ear, nose, language, body, intellectual, space/time, emotional and universal brains!

As a group of individuals please choose material which you feel transcends the ordinary and shallow and please constantly improvise using ÁHARMONIOUS INITIATIVE!

Harmonious Initiative = Take individual initiative, but in harmony with the group.

Please actively listen and have a seeking spirit so you can make
a phenomenon of beauty together. Please work together with the musicians of the particular group, and please interact with the audience, too and with the environment in general.

This concept also involves doing your best. Please try to manifest excellence and constantly improve. Please try to play harmoniously with the your environment. Especially of course the band members and the audience members.

At the same time please allow your own individuality to occur without disrupting the musical whole. Please have a poetic spirit: please use your deepest heart to transform challenge into success. Please promote the joy of self discovery and mutual consideration among the group members. Overall please remember to have Á Harmonious initiative! = an attitude of non hesitation with which to take action based on your own decision in harmony with the environment.

A Metajam Dialogue is a dialogue which consists of a short verbal discourse based on the present condition of life and environment/ then a brief jam session based on the dialogue strictly/ then a brief verbal discourse based on the jam session.
